I've known people like Penny. Wicked, but not evil, at least not intentionally. They don't really see how they treat people, or how people feel about them. Something broken inside justifies their actions.

That's such a sad story :( Thank you for telling it! I can't help but wonder though, how Chuck's mom didn't lose custody after being released from jail? Just the shitty prison system? I'd have thought if a baby is born while the parent is incarcerated (and surely they could see from her behaviour she wasn't a very fit mother) something would be done... or maybe she just knew when to play nice in order to keep him?
