Ouch, and yet, I knew that something like this would occur at some point. I hope Irma realizes that for Sarah, this isn't just a fun game of dress up, this is her life. Sarah is always going to be Sarah, forever and ever, amen. Irma is creative and cool, but I am not sure that she quite "gets it." I hope I am wrong that that Irma does understand that this is not "Seth" playing a game.

Well based on clues in number of past strips I would guess that Irma isn't playing anymore than Sarah is about her gender. What Irving has said in this strip matches up very well with what Irving has said in the past.

I'm not sure the pair understand each other very well. And misunderstandings here could really hurt badly.

I am looking forward to seeing what happens, though. I'm looking forward to the rest of this storyline.

Irma as a tangible representation (in the form of an elementary school girl!) of the concept of genderqueer/gender fluid is pretty much how I always viewed her. Not that she is or is not, but I have always read her as representing that identify, almost as a living (okay, cartoon?) metaphor? In ways outside of her as a character.

Of course, I'm probably waaaaaay off, but that's just how I perceived things so far!

Irving's described as "gender playful" in the comic description. It's not yet clear if Irving is a cis girl who likes playing with gender or if Irving likes playing with gender due to being genderfluid/queer. I'm hoping the latter.
