I think getting set up on kickstarter is relatively straight forward but as for designing a doll and getting it made I'm not sure what to advise. The easiest thing to start with would be looking around your area to see if there's anywhere that would make soft toys and what they'd charge. I've done costumes but never toys so I'm not even sure how to come up with a pattern.
