Okay, I get she's a kid, but just NO. That is UNACCEPTABLE behavior, and I really hope that Lucy has a nice way of making that clear. It's not exactly a secret right now, but if it WERE or if they were around people who DIDN'T know, she could have just put Sarah at very real risk. She's already been HOSPITALIZED due to transphobia. If it weren't for the "Didja know" it would have been grating, but it could be that she just assumed anyone in Sarah's house knows about her- fair assumption. But the "didja know" just kills it, it proves that she's going to go around shouting this to anyone who'll listen without regard for Sarah's personal feelings. That is private, personal information that can have very real backlash if the wrong person finds out- you do not go spewing it around.

Outing someone without permission is never okay.

"Didja know" is just super not okay.

It robs you of your identity, it robs you of a true first impression. It sucks going from Amy the kind friend, Amy the pianist, Amy the poet, or simply just plain ol' Amy to...Amy the transsexual. It's a bummer. That is not my defining attribute, that is not *anyone's* defining attribute.

Definitely. It's also something that should be our choice to share. Because Sarah was quite open about it, I can see why she'd think it's okay, but it really isn't. She doesn't know if she was just putting off a vibe that made Sarah comfortable to share it, or if there's some places it's okay and some that aren't. Early in the strip, when she was dressing up outside the house and her mom didn't know, if she'd said this to Sarah's mother the results would have been catastrophic!

I'd be freaked out if I had a friend who did that. I've had a couple who started, but I kinda put the kabosh on it quickly, being as nice as possible.

I truly appreciate the acceptance from this type of person. Sure beats the abuse (and worse) I've had to deal with. But it's an enthusiasm that needs to me molded and tempered so they see ME and not my happenstance of condition.

Agreed with all here, though I do get the impression that as of now she just plain doesn't know any better. Perhaps either Sarah or her aunt can teach her the benefits of discretion while she hangs around them. ^^

Geez, this kid...she's still not getting it. Sarah's not living as she is to be cool, rebellious, or (to use Molly's favorite word) "progressive." I know I'd be insulted if anyone implied such a thing about me.

Molly's hero worship is, to me, similar to continually telling a disabled person how "courageous" or "inspirational" they are. It dehumanizes rather than compliments the person, it's condescending, and it just plain gets old. Something Lucy, I'm sure, will immediately make her aware of.

And the "Didja know??" stuff makes me cringe, too. Although I suppose it could be excused somewhat, as she likely realizes Lucy is a relative and probably would know. (Kids tend to ask questions they already know the answers to).

If I may be allowed an additional comment, Lucy's remark seems as if it's setting up another flashback. Sarah's backstory up to now has only been hinted at rather than shown, so I figure she's overdue. Maybe if Molly understands Sarah a little better, she might dial down the devotion just a bit. (Though I'm not counting on it).

She might not be talking about Sarah's literal birth, but of the first time that part of herself became apparent. The first time they all realized she was transgender. Clark handled that in an offhand remark in an early strip (saying something to the effect of "she always insisted she was a girl"), but we don't know the details. She might tell that to Molly to give her a better understanding of why Sarah is the way she is.
