To My Beloved Royalty..."We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men [sic] are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."238 years ago today, a group of idealists signed their name to these words, to declare to a distant king that they would no longer be subject to his rule. Many people will deny its relevance today, due to the tragic failings of many of these men to live up to the lofty ideals they penned. I hold that the ideals put forth in the Declaration of Independence is one of the best documents on the ideals of just governance. I encourage my readers to give it a read on this 238th anniversary of this document's signing. And even if you don't, know that you, like Irma, have the right to pursue your own happiness whatever anyone else thinks. Just be smart, be safe, and harm none. A happy Fourth of July to my American friends. =)
