It seems as if she's practically begging for a friend, doesn't it? Her expression in the last panel is pained-looking. I'm guessing she probably comes across way too strongly for most people to tolerate her for long, while Sarah accepts her as she is, annoying traits and all.

I've been wondering about Molly's background for some time, and always suspected she in some way thought of herself as "different" (or was made to believe she was), which would explain why she's drawn to kids like Sarah. I'll be paying very close attention over the next couple of weeks to see if I'm right.

Lucy, meanwhile, looks as though she's regarding this kid with more than a bit of suspicion. I can't say I blame her.

I love how the general tone of conversation regarding Mollly has changed from "I want her to suffer a slow and painful death" to "poor, lonely molly" XD

And while I still say that we shouldn't judge her until we know her complete story (I'm pretty sure there is more to her than a fanatic "fangirl") I'll agree that she crossed a line by "outing" Sarah to everyone who will listen. In a perfect world it wouldn't matter. But unfortunately we live in a world where certain people set homes on fire because they don't agree with other people's sexual preferences. And the last thing Sarah needs is more bigots in her life.

TheLastInLine: My general attitude toward Molly has NOT changed--I still think she's stalkerish, hyper, and too hung up on Sarah being trans. And as I said in my first comment, her behavior up to now may be WHY she's lonely. However, I think we might be getting some insight into that behavior very shortly.

I get the sense that Molly is very afraid to be herself (hence the dressing like Sarah) and admires Sarah (far too much, mind you) for being openly herself.

I wonder, and worry, about what Molly's homelife is like. She has a disturbing and perverted view of social justice, I wonder if she got it from her parents or possibly in bits and pieces off an older sibling. It seems like her self-worth is going to be defined based on this friendship. Sarah's basking in it (how often is someone that excited to be your friend?), but it's not sustainable.

Fortunately, Lucy sees through this crap and will probably set them both straight. Hopefully they'll be able to have a HEALTHY friendship after this- I think it'd do them both good.

I got exactly the same impression you did. A couple of strips earlier, I made a flippant remark about the blas� attitude of Molly's mother toward her, but now I'm thinking it might be something other than a mildly amused, "There she goes again!" kind of thinking. Maybe she really doesn't care.

I also get the impression that Molly seems to have no identity of her own, but merely copies whoever she's near. That sets off some red flags, because it implies at the very least that she thinks very little of herself. The more I know about this girl, the more convinced I am she needs help.

Heh, I see I'm not the only one thinking Miss Annoying has a case of painfully lonely.

But you guys, home life isn't always the reason for desperate loneliness you know. Some people have very supportive family and just end up hating themself anyway. Actually it's more likely that she has a tendency for picking poor friends than having a poor family life. Friends that use you. Hurt you. Abandon you. The type of people that make you realize that being literally stabbed in the back would be a million times better, a million times more forgivable than the way they abandon you without a word why. It doesn't matter how great your family life is if you keep having friends like that. you end up desperate to keep this friend, make things different, make sure this one doesn't abandon you.

The thing is, she's latched onto her new ~TRANSGENDER~ buddy, who, by the way, is TRANSGENDER, did you know that? She was born MALE but now she's a GIRL isn't that so TRANSGRESSIVE? Haha, TRANS-gressive, get it?

Here's the strip that this girl first found out about Sarah: http://the-princess.funonthe.net/comics/396/ Notice that she has a friend with her, a person who's nice to her and shares information with her (ugh, this is so gross- Sarah didn't even tell her herself?), and she FREAKS OUT over Sarah being trans I mean OHMAHGOD that is so RADICAL Also, Sarah and Irma (and Molly) start all playing together- so, again, Sarah is not Molly's only option. If anything, Molly and Irma have more in common- Molly shows no patience with Sarah's pacifism.

Just read the strips following that one I linked...This is not a lonely girl who's clinging to her only friend. This is a girl who's got a SERIOUSLY warped social justice view and a (platonic?) trans fetish. She's basically the personification of tumblr.
