In fairness, very few people can pull off the full Carmen Miranda.

My thanks to the lovely Coasties at Coast Guard Island in Alameda! You were lovely hosts, and it was an honor to be a part of your Pride celebration! Especially on the momentous day when it was made official that barriers against transgender folks serving openly are to be lifted. I had a blast with y'all!

Well after two days of reading I am now caught up, I would like to say two things: "Wow!" and "Thank you". I am a fifty year old man who is just now coming to grips with his own sexual feelings and really wish that you were around when I was in elementary school. I denied my own bisexuality because that just wasn't "cool" back then. Now I am divorced and picking up the pieces of an extremely broken life and trying to figure out what it means for me to be gay in this part of my life. Read all the comments as well and want to thank you for seeing this continue even when your personal life was in shambles.

Heh. I wondered if anyone was gonna call me on that. I decided to err on the side of moving the story forward as that arc was more about giving Irma backstory, but I can't say for sure I made the right choice.

Yes, Sarah is learning just what attire is appropriate for what occasion (a problem I still struggle with). At least she has the advantage of learning at a young age, like any little girl.

And I agree with Wendy--Sarah does indeed look cute in that outfit. She may love pink, but blue is definitely her color. The matching hair bow is a nice touch--we haven't seen our Princess with a bow in her hair up to now. (At least not in my admittedly limited memory).

A few strips ago, you hinted that the winds of change were in the air. Might Sarah's evolving look be a part of that? I noticed her Princess crown blew off her head, which I interpreted as her putting fantasy aside and beginning to grow up. (Or perhaps I'm overthinking it, and have way too much time on my hands....)

And you don't want to adopt the Carmen Miranda look, Sarah--all that fruit on your head will give you a headache. Goof

Besides, where would your crown fit?

I'm (shudder!) 54, and the strip I'm planning is pretty much the same--a comic my preteen self would have begged to see. Since I want it to reflect my own life (or my life as I would have wished it to be) I thought of making my character disabled and trans, as I am. (As I've probably told you before). Would that be overkill, though? It would have to be at least somewhat relatable.

Your strip certainly helps me--I crave the little-girlhood that I was never allowed. Reading your strip at least helps me imagine what might have been.

I think a trans girl with a disability would be an amazing strip... the big challenge would be to prevent her from becoming a Mary Sue. This is NOT easy, and something I struggle with. It can be done, obviously, but I think a writer needs to keep interrogating their work.
